MARE TechnoPark participates in “Intelligent Venice: the oldest city of the future”: AI and Healthcare meet in Venice

MARE TechnoPark participates in “Intelligent Venice: the oldest city of the future,” a special project by the Fondazione Venezia Capitale Mondiale della sostenibilità / Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) for the Architecture Biennale 2025: AI and Healthcare Meet in Venice.

enice, April 2025 – MARE TechnoPark, a digital health technopole, entirely focused on research and development of AI-based healthcare solutions, is proud to participate in “Intelligent Venice: the oldest city of the future,” a special project by the Fondazione Venezia Capitale Mondiale della sostenibilità / Venice Sustainability Foundation (VSF) for the Architecture Biennale 2025 that will be hosted in the Tesa dell’Isolotto Pavilion. MARE represents a crucial step toward the future of AI in healthcare and the transformation of the Venetian lagoon.

This year’s Biennale motto, “Intelligens. Natural. Artificial. Collective.”, resonates deeply with the mission of the MARE TechnoPark. It reflects the collective intelligence required to build sustainable futures, blending natural heritage with artificial innovation. MARE embodies this spirit — a place where tradition meets technology, and individual excellence converges with collaborative progress. Venice, a city that has shaped the past, now becomes a beacon for shaping the future of eHealth. The essence of the MARE TechPark: a place where tradition meets cutting-edge innovation, where cooperative research will overcome the implementation gap of AI in healthcare.

Built on the historic site of the Ospedale al Mare on the Lido of Venice, the MARE campus will host up to 900 researchers working in cooperation at the forefront of Artificial Intelligence and digital health. The architectural concept, led by architect Alberto Torsello, embodies a respectful dialogue between past and future. The design carefully preserves the soul of the historic seaside hospital while transforming it into a vibrant research and innovation campus, mindful of the delicate balance of the Venetian lagoon.

A key partner of MARE will be CompuGroup Medical Italia (CGM Italia), a leading global software company in healthcare, which will place up to 100 researchers at MARE. Key components of the MARE initiative include not only a TechnoPark designed to foster a thriving tech ecosystem that encourages cooperation, creativity, and innovation, but also research centers and a start-up accelerator program aimed at attracting international talent. An extensive archive of aggregated medical data from diverse, rich sources, as well as a sophisticated AI engine for analyzing vast amounts of health data, will be part of this unique ecosystem and enable future partners of MARE to develop new eHealth applications to heal people all over the world.

Emanuele Mugnani, Managing Director Ambulatory Information Systems Europe at CGM, stated: “For CGM, being part of the MARE community means committing to creating solutions that bring value to both patients and healthcare professionals by leveraging data-driven and AI-based technologies. This synergistic approach will allow CGM to access a broader range of opportunities and open the door to new markets that would be hard to reach through individual efforts.”

“MARE unites the inventive spirit of Venice with cutting-edge AI research,” said Frank Gotthardt, founder of CGM and MARE. “All my life, I’ve developed technology to support healthcare professionals and improve health outcomes. I believe that the right medical information in the right place at the right time will save lives. This vision led to MARE – a collaborative, innovative space for the future of digital health. In the 1930s, this site healed thousands; soon, it will benefit millions worldwide.”

MARE’s participation in the VSF Pavilion reflects its commitment to sustainability and innovation, supporting the transformation of the Venetian lagoon into a high-tech hub. Visitors will experience how MARE merges architectural restoration, technological vision, and global health impact. We are honored to be selected by Fondazione VSF for this prestigious event and look forward to meeting you in Venice.
